Clear thinking is the ‘new Green’

(whatever happened to Black?)

Regularly billed as ‘The world’s leading expert on the brain, memory and

learning’, Government, Educational and Business adviser Tony Buzan has a mind sharper than Sweeney Todd’s razor. You’re never likely to see him suffering from what motor racing drivers (or anybody else looking for an excuse for an inexplicable lapse of concentration or memory) archly refer to as ‘brain fade’. And ‘Senior moment’ excuses are definitely not his thing…

‘Guru of the Grey Matter’

Tony is the author or co-author of over 90 books on the brain, learning and business principles (published in 150 countries, in 33 languages). The inventor of Mind Maps®, he has devoted most of his working life to promoting Mental Literacy – teaching people how to learn and how to use their brains effectively. His diary is packed with meetings, interviews and lectures, yet somehow he finds time to write new books, develop new Mind Map products (downloadable iMindMap software is the latest addition to the roster) – and host the annual World Memory Championships, which he originated and co-founded.Although he lives and works in a quiet part of Buckinghamshire, England, Tony travels for at least eight months of the year, and at last count had visited 73 countries over his working lifetime. And in many of those 73 countries, his mission includes imparting his thinking skills to the men and women whose job it is to govern, to shape their nation’s laws and to guide their people’s development. The results of his endeavours have been truly impressive. The focus of Tony’s work with both government and business is to help increasetheir creativity, innovation skills, and leadership capabilities at all levels, to facilitate communication and to streamline processes. He also gets involved in the management of specific projects, advises on election campaigns, and helps his subjects brush up on their negotiating skills. Plus he delves into the realms of Corporate Memory, Knowledge Management and Intellectual Property.

Educating the educators

Tony recently returned from a six-week lecturing and interview tour of Asia and the Far East. In HCMC, Vietnam, he was invited to brief the Vice Minister of Education on his ways of creative thinking and learning. She has since asked Tony to consider providing input for training manuals which are to be distributed to all the teachers in Vietnam – numbering several millions – thereby training themselves and then educating the children for whom they are responsible.

Mexican Brain Waves

Tony has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the government of Mexico, stretching back to the turn of the century and the election of President Vicente Fox of the PAN (National Action Party). A highlight of his career in Mexico so far was in 2003 – the 5th annual United Nations Conference on Quality and Innovation at the Mexico City Stadium – where Tony was the keynote speaker for the whole event. In addition, each of the other 28 speeches delivered was simultaneously Mind Mapped by a total audience of 10,000 people, led by the Buzan Centre’s Latin America team, headed up by Jorge Castaneda – that’s around 280,000 Mind Maps created over the duration of the conference!

Another highlight was when Tony was honoured to be given the prime keynote slot -addressing an audience of 15,000 – at the Farewell Convention for the outgoingPresident Fox, when he completed his term of office in 2006.

Tony’s teachings and systems were instrumental in helping to structure the election campaign which put Foxe in power in 2001, becoming the first Mexican opposition party President since 1929. Much of the ‘outreach’ campaign was planned with Mind Maps, as were many debates and political arguments. Fox’s victory was decisive (43%). One outcome of Fox’s Buzan-inspired strategy was the development of an operations manual, based largely on Tony’s Mind Mapping and learning techniques, for all senior parliamentarians, ministers and civil servants.Apart from the ex-President himself, one of Tony’s most dedicated Mexican followers is Buzan Licensed Instructor Antonio Obregon Torres, who for many years worked as a senior government official, reporting to the Mayor and Governor of Guanacuato. The Mayor presided over a massive, wide-ranging series of Buzan Learning events, reaching audiences as varied as civil servants, learning professionals, and underprivileged children – publicly supporting Mind Mapping and Mental Literacy. So dedicated was he, that he then qualified as a BLI himself – using Mind Maps to plan his campaign for election to the Mexican Congress. With Mental Literacy in Education as major planks within his programme, he won by an unprecedented majority of well over 70% – thus becoming the first BLI to become a Congressman.

Tony’s ongoing relationship with Mexico is warm and continually expanding. On his last visit he spent time with Sergio Garcia de Alba – the former Minister of the Economy, and now the brains behind the initiative for renovating the number one private University in Mexico, Tecnologico de Monterrey – helping him to evaluate the benefits of a long-term alliance.

Also on that trip, and for the first time ever in the Americas, Tony trained 40 people in Stage One of the new Buzan Learning Certification programme, The Mind Map Foundation Course. He also visited the site of the impressive building in Jalpa that will house the Mexican Centre for Research and Development of Intellectual Capital, which will incorporate a State Buzan Centre. A further return visit, incorporating an itinerary of conference appearances and workshops is planned for the last two weeks of October 2007, when the new Centre will be officially opened by Tony.

Chinese inroads

In China, the government-owned Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press FLTRP, is the publisher of seven of Tony’s books, with more in the pipeline for 2008 and beyond. To back up this initiative Tony regularly speaks, at the invitation of the Chinese government, to large audiences of leading business people. He also gives regular lectures on educational techniques at key learning centres such as Beijing University.

Tastes of the Orient

In Malaysia, Tony has worked closely with former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, a renowned ‘blue sky’ thinker, whose vision was to be a leading first world nation by applying Mental Literacy techniques as a foundation concept. Another big Buzan Learning supporter is former Minister of Transport and current President of UTAR University, Tun Dr. Ling, who is heading up an initiative to introduce Mind Mapping and its applications into future business and educational strategies throughout the country.

Singapore fling

Tony has been equally busy in Singapore, where he leads an initiative with IPAN, the Civil Service branch of the Ministry of Manpower, to train thousands of senior and middle-level civil servants in thinking, creativity, communications and a full range of complementary learning skills. Instrumental to his success – in the city-state and beyond – has been his close relationship with Henry Toi, founder and Managing Director of Buzan Centres Asia – who, under Tony’s direction, has in recent years established Centres in Korea,Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.Tony has also been involved in implementing an ongoing programme, organized jointly with the founder of Buzan Learning Centres Singapore, Dr Tan Buck Chye, to help the nation’s teachers to teach and communicate, using Mind Maps and Buzan Learning literary techniques. Thus far at least 5,000 of the 20,000 teachers

in the country have attended courses, which are always immensely well received.

School’s out…

The pair has also recently commenced a far-reaching, experimental educational concept, The Power Learning Camp, which arranges for children to go, out of school, to the Learning Centre. Here they are tutored, by qualified academic teachers, curriculum subjects such as English, Geography, Chemistry and Physics.

The teachers are all qualified to teach these subjects, and have been furtherqualified by Tony himself and the Buzan Centres, to utilise Buzan techniques throughout.

For instance, the physics teacher who teaches physics with Mind Maps also teaches them how to read faster, how to take notes… and how to translate these notes into essays. This is a major social and educational experience which is proving to be extremely popular with teachers, parents and children alike – and the school is currently overflowing.

Back on home territory

In the UK Tony has, in recent years, been involved with a number of large-scale regional government educational authorities, including a far-reaching programmerfor Bedfordshire Education Council. In Scotland, he is a key member of the Masterclass team operated by North and South Lanarkshire Councils’ The Tapestry Partnership – and has lectured to more than 5,000 head teachers over the past seven years. As part of this initiative, in May this year he lectured to 200 head tearchers at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on ‘Strategies for the 21st Century’ – an important element of the two councils’ ‘School as the Home for the Mind’ strategy.

For politicians and government officials at all levels, Tony Buzan’s advice andexpertise can be invaluable in education, in strategy and policy development, and in communications; in fact, within any facet of government that involves thinking and the use of the brain. And while it may seem obvious to say so, that really ought to be every part of government – joined up or otherwise! – e n d s – BUZ114BX/2007

My Dubai Stay in Ramadan

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the period when revelations began from God. Muslims are supposed to abstain from food, drink, sexual pleasures and sins from dawn till dusk. This year Ramadan is beginning from the evening of 1st September and will run through 1st October.

There is a big concern among those who plan to visit Dubai during this time. The most common question asked especially by non-muslims is “What impact Ramadan will have on Dubai Stay?”

Dubai with its unchallenged sights, diverse life styles, and warm atmosphere is an open invitation for those looking for paradise on earth. It is undeniably adopting western customs at a much faster pace. However in Ramadan Dubai transforms into an impeccable blend of religion and modern culture. So visiting Dubai in Ramadan will be a different experience altogether. With night clubs closed and live music/ concerts being banned Dubai life becomes vibrant inside Majlis and Jaimas (Arabic tents) that are set up all across Dubai.  Tents are well decorated with Persian carpets, stylishly placed cushions and offer exquisite cuisines and beverages that actually reflects true Arabian culture. Even after opening of the fast people stay there very late to socialise, enjoy food, smoke shisha and play games.

In Ramadan shopping lovers will find several attractive promotions. Not only from retail stores to restaurants but upon flight booking , hotel reservation, short stay apartment reservation etc. People splurge to Malls after sun down and Dubai is as busy then as Western stores before Christmas. During fasting hours Malls do stay open but observe the no food rule if their eating area is visible to the public. Similarly restaurants with visible area do not serve during day time, but inside nothing changes; mostly windows are curtained to respect fasting people. Non-muslims are expected to show kindliness by not eating, drinking and smoking at public places.  Alcohol is not served during day time but after sunset bars open up and alcohol is served as usual.

In Ramadan rush hours are normally an hour or two before sunset but once fast is open the streets become almost deserted. So care needs to be taken if you are planning to go out at that time.

Ramadan is a time of sharing, peace and tolerance and this unison of religion and culture transforms dream destination of Dubai into a remarkable reality. So why not find out yourself what really makes Dubai Ramadan a unique experience.

Share your views on daily fasting and nightly feastings and what makes your Dubai Stay in Ramadan special.

Dubai is located within the Gulf States and is the second largest of the United Arab Emirates. Dubai Web Design: How to Build a Successful Website in Dubai

May 29, 2009 by admin

Most business houses in Dubai work under the impression that flaunting a stunning web design in the Dubai web market is all that they need to make their website an instant hit. Well, they couldn’t be more wrong!

A great web design for the Dubai market is one that is easy on the eye and features straightforward navigation, built-in interactivity, and great content. It should preferably also be built and suited for Dubai ecommerce (if required) and should be easily found on search engines.

As of now, there are only a handful of Dubai web development companies that are equipped to deliver a website that features all of the above qualities. So, you have to be careful in selecting a Dubai web development firm for developing your website. Nevertheless, whomsoever you select, the following factors must be incorporated in your website to make it a great success in Dubai’s throbbing, red-hot marketplace:

1. Your website must feature a simple yet stylish design. Don’t make a website with loads of flash and animations thrown in because they take considerable time to download and thus make the site slower. Remember, Dubai’s Internet users who surf looking for business prefer fast and simple websites.

2. Needless to say, your website’s navigation must be simple, logical, crisp and easy. Because that’s what all serious Internet users expect from a quality website. If you are selling something then make sure that the firm you engage can flawlessly program and maintain a payment gateway tailored for Dubai.

3. Next is content, which as you know and, as the saying goes, is the king. If your website is content-based, then you have to ensure that it carries fabulous content. Remember, ordinary content is everywhere and every web user knows that. If and only if you hoist superb content regularly can you expect to accumulate a massive user database. Now herein lies the crunch – a whole lot of Dubai web development firms are not content-savvy, but there are a few who have an in-house content team or have tied with freelance professionals. You must entrust your web development work only to such firms. One more thing, if you are selling something and have built in a strong Dubai payment gateway, then all the content that you post on your website must, in some way or the other, lead to your Dubai payment gateway, because ultimately you want people to buy your goods.

4. If you want to hawk your product or service to Dubai’s burgeoning Internet market, then you must get a Dubai ecommerce shopping cart built into your website. Of course, your product will succeed if it has value and is priced reasonably. Only the real professionals can help you build an error-free and smooth Dubai payment gateway – because not all web development firms in Dubai have adequate experience in building these.

5. Do not forget to build in interactivity into your site. Ask for feedback, take opinions, solicit suggestions, give away newsletters, do whatever it takes, but get some interactive elements going into your website.

6. Finally, your website must be search-engine-friendly – it must be easily found by the Dubai-based Internet users. And for that to happen you need your web development firm to perform a great Dubai SEO (Search Engine Optimization) job on your website. SEO in the Gulf region assumes great importance, and that is because the Internet market is growing and so are the number of online businesses. You need strong Gulf SEO in order to compete and make your profits.

This is what all you need to build a successful website in Dubai. Remember, the Dubai market is growing by leaps and bounds. The Internet penetration has reached 33% and is growing at a fast clip and multinational companies are setting up base in droves. If you want to do good business in Dubai, then having a good website is essential – not just a good-looking website, but one that has all the features listed above, with a strong focus on Dubai SEO because that is what is going to drive the traffic to your site.

This has been a thought of peoples that Dubai is hot during summer and white man can’t handle the hot heat of summer in Dubai. This is actually true. Dubai resides at a place on the world, which was desert at a time. The temperature is bearable for any lover of Dubai, who knows the joys Dubai have.

For Asians and Middle East peoples, there is not a factor of summer in their mind. On the other hand, they prefer to visit Dubai in summer.

Government and Investors knew about it and they have managed to deliver the best shot of entertainment activities in Dubai. There are more entertainment activities in summer, including golf, Dubai nightlife Clubs, nature tours, desert safaris, shopping festivals, wild wadi water park, major western fast food franchises as well as many fabulous restaurants with all the different cuisines from around the world, Seaside activities, water sports etc.

If you’re a traveler looking for adventure I recommend it highly particularly if you enjoy major events and or you’re traveling from Europe to the Asia Pacific region (or vice versa). Emirates Airline is superb and it’s no wonder it’s quickly become one of the most successful carriers in the world.

With this thought as prices of Dubai Apartments, Dubai Hotel Apartments and Dubai Hotels go down amazingly. Those who can not afford Dubai Accommodation in high season can afford the apartments living at half prices.

Most of us have holiday time during May to July. Spending your holidays in Dubai can be more fun in summer.

Don’t be afraid of the hot heat. You can enjoy luxurious living in Dubai apartments; taste the quality of foods in beautiful restaurants, Sky Dubai is another alternative to feel coldness in summer.

And, once you are passed away with the daylight, you can enjoy the evening on the wonderful beaches with your favorite water sports activities.

There are many middle class guyz, who see their pockets and monthly budgets to visit Dubai. This is actually their season to have fun in Dubai. Schools are off for 2 or 3 months and families plan their holidays in Dubai.

Visit, Eat, Live, Play and Enjoy Dubai in summer!

Posting your Hotel Experience on Youtube or Flickr

May 29, 2009 by admin

For avid travellers, it’s unquestionable that the internet has revolutionised the way that people plan their holidays. Not only can you book flights and accommodation online, but the birth of Web 2.0 has meant that many holidaymakers are able to read reviews of a particular beach resort or five-star hotel before deciding on their destination of choice. However, written reviews and user comments can only go so far – in order to really know what a particular holiday location might be like, photographs, virtual tours or online videos can be a lot more helpful.

In fact, many travel writers and bloggers are becoming increasingly aware of the fact that people don’t want to be told about how beautiful Miami Beach is in July or how spectacular the Alps look from Grenoble – they want to be able to see it for themselves. This is where social sites like photo-sharing service Flickr and online video website YouTube come into their own. Sites which allow travellers to share images or videos are quickly being flooded with everything from amateur holiday snapshots to semi-professional video tours of hotels in an effort to share their travel experiences with like-minded individuals.

For instance, a simple search for Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab hotel on Flickr currently generates over 6500 images. These include photos of the Burj Al Arab rising above the Dubai skyline, as well as images of the hotel’s lavish interior and vistas of the city from the building’s apex. So anyone planning to book a stay at the Burj Al Arab will be able to get a taste of what awaits them through the photo-sharing site.

Additionally, the search engine Yahoo!, which owns Flickr, has recently begun to integrate popular Flickr images into its search results. So if you’re searching for the Taj Mahal or the Pyramids of Giza in Yahoo! when planning a possible holiday, you’ll easily be able to find images as well as more information to help you come to a decision.

Moreover, posting your hotel experience on YouTube is also a great way to share your travel memories. Whether you’ve just come back from an unforgettable hotel that you want other people to enjoy too, or you’re keen to make sure people avoid a particular place to stay, you’ll certainly be providing web savvy travellers with a valuable resource.

While many hotels offer virtual tours on their own sites, these often require the installation of QuickTime or Windows Media Player before viewing. If you don’t have these pre-installed, watching these virtual tours can be rather time consuming. As a result, a lot of people planning a holiday are more likely to watch hotel tours on YouTube because it tends to be both quicker and easier. It’s also true that people are more likely to trust videos on YouTube as a more honest representation of the hotel in question, rather than simply as a video tour that’s been vetted by the hotel to make it look as good as possible.

So whether you’re keen to stay at a luxury seven-star hotel in Dubai or you simply want to find a small beach hut in Goa, don’t underestimate the value of searching for an online video tour or photograph of your prospective hotel or holiday location on the internet. Your vacation is sure to benefit in the end!

Things you Should Know About Dubai Hotels

From being a small fishing hamlet to a major meeting point for the traders from across Asia. From being a modest port at the coast of Gulf to one of the richest economies in the entire region. From an insignificant bunch of tribesmen to being one of the most influential emirates of UAE. Dubai has seen it all in what could be termed as a very small chapter of modern history. One should not be surprised therefore, why it went on to become one of the best economies and tourism spots of the modern times. Subsequently, Dubai has had to cope with the influx of a very large number of travelers each year.

The city had no option but to build world class hotels to take care of these surging crowds. There are roughly two dozen five-star hotels and an equally good number of other lodging facilities available in Dubai right now. These facilities include some of the most expensive hotels you might have seen ever. Also available are the inexpensive facilities that can take care of the low-end needs. There are several defining aspects that make these hotels very special. Some of these are being listed and described below.

1. A wide range of facilities are available to choose from. The rates can be as low as $60 per night to as high as $1K or more, depending on the nature of services one was looking forward to. Most of these Dubai hotels, low and high-end both in kinds, provide world-class care for anybody’s stay there. Most of them can be accessed through the Internet and bookings can be fetched much in advance. These Hotels are normally situated within various trade-zones, thus making access to all important venues easy, including that to commercial hubs, road links, airport etc.

2. Dubai’s tourism is expected to grow at a handsome rate for the next several years, before hitting a plateau. It will therefore make the hotel industry one of the key areas where Dubai’s planners might be looking forward to spend some additional thoughts on. Recently a government communiqué suggested, $27 billion will be made available to double the hotel accommodation by the year 2016, meaning an addition of about 29,000 more hotel rooms. The message from the authorities is very clear. They are going to take care of the hotel industry, as dearly as they would do of any other project.

3. Dubai is home to some 8,00,000 expatriates from numerous countries, making out roughly 80% of its total composition. This has caused an inflow of alien ideas, cultures and languages in a land of Islamic beliefs. Unlike some of its neighboring states though, Dubai offers a very pluralistic environment for its expatriates to live in the way they might wish to. Thus, one can find even Churches, Sikh Gurdwaras and Hindu temples dotting the map of this desert outpost, and people from different faiths and cultures living in complete cohesion. The fusion of Arabic culture with its counterparts from the rest of world is a distinct identity, Dubai normally gets known and appreciated for. The same applies to its world-class hotels as well.

In brief, Dubai hotels are one of the most planned and managed ones in the entire world. They have closely been made part of the government’s tourism and trade objectives. Like Dubai, hotels do also have evolved into having a cosmopolitan face. Travelers moving to this part of the world will definitely love to experience this unique phenomenon.

Kuala Lumpur Tower – One of the world’s tallest towers

Widely known as the “Menara Kuala Lumpur”, the Kuala Lumpur Tower currently ranks as the fifth tallest telecommunication tower in the world and is a highly visible and prestigious landmark in Malaysia. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s business and entertainment district, it towers majestically atop Bukit Nanas (Pineapple Hill) giving a breathtaking view of the city. The view is said to be better than that of the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest buildings in Kuala Lumpur, because Kuala Lumpur Tower is built on a hill and even appears to be taller than the Petronas Towers.

It is one of the biggest projects to be undertaken in Malaysia, the construction of which took over a period of four years to complete. Today the tower acts as the country’s main telecommunications and multimedia broadcasting tower and is one of the top tourist destinations offering picturesque views and various other exciting programmes for visitor entertainment.

The tower also has a unique architectural heritage reflecting the Malaysian Islamic culture. The traditional Islamic ‘Muqarnas’ can be seen at the lobby entrance which is decorated with exquisite glass-clad domes that illuminate like giant diamonds. The decorative glass windows, detailing Arabic Scripts, Islamic tiles and classic floral designs altogether enhance the lavishness of the tower.

The key attractions of the Kuala Lumpur Tower include the open-air amphitheatre for cultural and musical events and the Tower Terrace with cascading pools. There are top-class dining and shopping facilities and a venue for private functions offering a bird’s eye view of the city.

If you are planning a visit to Kuala Lumpur this famous landmark is a must see in the city. Hence it is advisable that you select a Kuala Lumpur hotel located in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle such as Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur which offers luxury facilities to its guests.
