Uae Area Guide, Part 3 Of 8 – Ajman
Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (or UAE). Ajman is undergoing dramatic growth and development like the rest of the United Arab Emirates so tourist attractions and activities as well as shopping, cultural and sporting opportunities are going to dramatically increase in the very near future. Currently there are three main tourist attractions in Ajman and this article will explore these further.
Shopping in Ajman is available in both modern malls, which offer many of the designer and luxury items you would expect from a modern shopping mall in the UAE, and the traditional souqs where local products such as traditional pottery can be purchased.
Tourists to Ajman have always enjoyed a visit to the Dhow Yard which is the biggest and one of the busiest Dhow building yards in the United Arab Emirates. Here visitors can see Dhows being built in the traditional manner, exactly the same as they have been built for centuries. The Dhow Yard also builds modern speed boats that compete in the Dubai Speed Boat races.
The Ajman Museum is also well worth a visit. This museum was opened in 1981and is housed in a fort that dates from the 16th Century. The museum has a strong emphasis on the traditional culture of the region and visitors cannot only see ancient artefacts but also modern reconstructions of traditional Bedouin ways of life including both social and trade reconstructions. The Ajman museum also houses a large collection of artefacts from the Mowaihat archaeological site.
The Mowaihat Archaeological site was discovered by workers laying a sewerage pipe in 1986. The site was then excavated as an archaeological site at which several copper implements numerous beads, a number of ceramic vessels and human remains among other artefacts have been unearthed. This site was the first site to be discovered that showed that the area was occupied in the Um al-Nar period.
Ajman’s beaches have also long been a traditional tourist attraction, the climate of Ajman being superbly suited to beach life. Dolphins are common off the coast of Ajman and dolphin spotting is a popular recreational activity with both tourists and locals alike.
Ajman has a variety of food and places to eat out, you will find everything from western fast food outlets to high class restaurants and traditional café and street vendors. Even though Ajman is a Muslim state, alcohol can be purchased in restaurants and hotels. This is the norm through most of the UAE; alcohol can be purchased by non Muslims in hotels and restaurants although it is generally not possible to purchase alcohol outside of these places.
Ajman is currently experiencing a huge growth in development so over the next few years tourism and tourist attractions will grow in number and variety. There are several theme parks and other tourist related developments currently under construction or well into the planning stages. Sports facilities, clubs and venues are also currently under development as are cultural attractions such as theatres, museums and galleries.
Travel experiences: Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Part 3
I spent a week this year in a very weird city, known as Dubai.
So whats it like? Its like somebody grabbed a massive chunk of america and morrocco, stuck them in a blender and made it twenty times better.
I stopped in the Hilton Jumeriah Hotel by the marina part of dubai, and this area certainly offers the best views available.
The marian section, like the rest of the city, is still under heavy construction. Looking out to sea (the artificially manafacutred sea where are the sand has been shipped in from over seas) you can see the construction of the palm islands, which are a group of islands being artificially manafacturated for tourism puroses.
There is an amazing variety of things to do in Dubai, being a muslim city though, don’t expect to be able to buy alcohol in any shops as it is only available in specialist outlets and hotels.
During my one week stay here are the activites i took part in:
-Desert Safari
This is usually a day long trip. You can be arranged to be picked up from your hotel one morning to take part in a desert safari, the drive from the Hilton took about 2hours to get out of the city as even the drivers don’t know the roads as the maps are being re-written every week (thats how fast development is).
You then spend about 2 hours on a dune safari being taken for the ride of your life and almost tipping over and sliding backwards across the sand.
Along the way we were able to visit a camel farm before arriving at our camp, the camp was amazing and included a very clean toilet block, a big barbecue (included in price) and free unlimited canned drinks all served ice cold, and you do not realise how refreshing that is untill you have endured the 48 degree heat that they have everday there.
-East Coast Trip
On this day, we hired a car and drove down to the east coast, we visited a hotel which charged a small amount for entry and we were able to use all their facilities. Off the beach there was a small nature reserve rocky island called snoopy island, and if you can brave the rough waters, you can see some amazing sights when snorkelling and some very exotic fish.
-Lazing about
Because of the intense heat you will spend most of your time taking part in this amazing activity along with getting a very nice tan. If lazing isn’t your thing though you can always take part in other things. Parasailing is very common and great fun and there is always people playing volleyball that will let you join in.
Unfortunately the marina is finished but

There are many theories about the origin of the word Dubai, some say this term was given to the region because it was considered a smaller version of a thriving market which name was “Daba”, other theories suggest that this particular word means money. Regardless of the word’s origin, the fact is that Dubai is a well known city due to its landmarks, wealth and architectural achievements which represent a great attraction to tourists and investors.
Dubai real estate market has blossomed in the past fifteen years due to implementations of one-of-a-kind projects such as “The Palm”, “The World” islands and “The Walk”, this fantastic place has earned the interest of the world’s wealthiest people, mid-size and small investors. Today, most of Dubai population is Asian by origin, has a population which covers 185 different nationalities and offers great returns on investment to more than five thousand companies.
When someone thinks about the United Arab Emirates the first thing that comes to mind is a hot desert area, which might not be a glamorous place to live in, but the truth is that Dubai has a multicultural and sophisticated society which lives up to international standards.
Due to its accelerated growth, property investments in Dubai have become a real goldmine to everyone who is willing to contribute and participate in all the wonders this place offers. Private sector investments are now calculated to surpass the 4000 million.
The success of Dubai property sales resides in the fact that the city is properly diversified and has what are referred to as “Free Zones” which offer incentives to investors such as: repartition of profits, complete foreign ownership, tax exemptions for Levi construction and extended leases.
A few Free Zones which have skyrocketed property investments in Dubai are: media and internet city, Jebel Ali free zone, gold and diamond park, etc. Dubai property sales have also attracted major financial institutions and insurance companies which are currently regulated by the UAE central bank and are restricted to have up to 8 branches per institution after meeting government regulations.
Other important factors which have skyrocketed property investments in Dubai are the fact that businesses can be established in 20 minutes in free zones, there are no income tax and corporate tax regulations which represent a huge advantage for investors, low cost work environment as well as low energy costs and a state-of-the-art city which could be considered the eighth world wonder!.
Working In Dubai
Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is one of the world’s fastest growing employment hotspots in the world. Up to 20 new companies establish themselves in the emirate’s free trade zones every week and since 2002 some 650 companies have registered in the Dubai Media City free trade zone alone.
Particularly in the fields of tourism, IT, media and finance there are significant job opportunities for qualified personnel and if you’re interested in working in Dubai here’s a guide to employment in the most exciting, tax free, fastest growing multi cultural location in the world.
Yes, you heard me right, Dubai is tax free – if you live and work in the emirate your income will be paid to you gross and furthermore, if you buy a house to live in you will not be subject to property taxes because direct personal taxation is against the law in Dubai!
The emirate currently has 15 free trade zones and 7 more are in the planning stages. The free trade zones are where foreign businesses can establish themselves and grow without the restriction of corporate taxation for example and without having to submit to a local majority shareholding structure. As a direct result of all of the incentives offered to overseas businesses, take up in the free trade zones has been incredible and employment opportunities for foreign personnel are being created within them on a weekly basis.
To work in Dubai you require a work permit and a residency visa and the majority of employers arrange these for their expatriate work force when they appoint them. If you’re planning on travelling to Dubai to look for work you can enter the country on a temporary visa and then as soon as you secure employment you can apply for your work permit and visas. Rules relating to the period of time you can remain in the country on a temporary visa vary depending on the country you herald from and you should check with your local UAE embassy on rules that apply to you before you travel.
Most business in Dubai is done on a networking basis and so when you first arrive it can feel a little alien to have to immediately get out there and start introducing yourself to people. But don’t worry, you soon get used to it. Just make sure you have a pocketful of business cards to hand whenever you leave your accommodation as trading in business cards is the first step to successful networking!
Once you’ve settled into the different working hours in Dubai – many businesses close for a few hours in the afternoon and no local people take appointments on a Friday – and once you’ve settled into the fast pace of your social life you will begin to love your new surroundings. The quality of life achievable in Dubai for expatriates is quite possibly inimitable elsewhere as such emphasis has been placed on creating a paradise where foreign workers can work hard, play hard, live life to the full and experience everything in one day from skiing on an indoor slope to playing golf to diving to camel riding in the desert.
Expatriates make up 94% of the population in Dubai and as a direct result you can almost guarantee you’ll make friends very quickly and easily. The environment in Dubai is so multi cultural, open and free and there are a great deal of social clubs and events designed for people to meet up and make friends. These all help ease new residents into their brand new life. Everyone makes a great effort to get along in Dubai because they are all in the same boat together – working away from home but enjoying being in a country that offers first class business opportunities and a tax free lifestyle – could you ask for more?

It has spent billions of dollars putting the infrastructure in place to position itself as one of the best holiday destinations in the world. As part of that process Dubai has built some of the most luxurious holiday villas and self catering holiday apartments to be found any where in the world.

Dubai is a prosperous and cosmopolitan city. It mixes old town mosques and souks alongside modern high rise skyscrapers. The majority of this wealthy city has been built in the last 20 years and incorporates much in the way of futuristic architecture.
Construction is a feature of the city and there is constant building activity. The Dubai Waterfront project will add 500 miles of man-made waterfront to the city. These artificial islands will add up to a space roughly 7 times the size of Manhattan!!
Situated on the south sore of the Arabian Gulf, Dubai is one of seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. The population of Dubai City is over 1 million. The majority of the city’s population (80%) is made up of expatriates the majority of whom are from South Asia. The city is split in two by the Dubai Creek. Trade, oil and tourism all play a major part in Dubai’s economy and have taken over the traditional occupations of fishing, pearl diving and camel breeding. The area around Dubai City is desert and sparsely populated.
The weather is Dubai is extremely hot during the summer months so the best time to visit is during the winter months. During Ramadan it is illegal to publicly eat or drink and so this time is unpopular with tourists. Dubai is a liberal tourist destination and tolerant and safe to visit. However women are advised to dress conservatively when amongst locals.
Visitors are attracted to Dubai by the world class sports events and air shows as well as the fantastic shopping attractions and air conditioned malls. Dubai claims to be the shopping center of the world. The shopping attractions range from traditional crafts and arts to ultra modern designer fashions and electronics. The Dubai Shopping Festival is a yearly event held during January and February. The Dubai Summer Surprises is a summer month shopping spectacular which makes the most of the cheap hotel rates.

Dubai is an interesting place to visit. It is an amzing place for tourists with a lot of interesting things to do and see.Dubai is known for the wonderful shopping malls and some of them are just out of this world. They are so luxurious and the whole experience is really great.
Restaurants in Dubai are quite another thing.there is every kind of restaurant here be it the hamburger and sandwich joints or the Thai restaurants or the Chinese eateries or the Indian restaurants..
There are some fantastic World class Indian restaurants in Dubai. I had the opportunity of visiting one such fabulous restaurant while i was visiting Dubai. It is owned by the famous Indian singer Asha Bhonsle ..
I thought i would share some details about this lovely restaurant here..
Asha Bhonsle is one of the most popular playback singers of the Hindi Film Industry, she is easily one of the most versatile singers ever…Her voice has mesmerised listeners for 5 generations, but according to her close friends and relatives Asha is even a better cook !…that is quite a formidable thought
Asha is a great cook and she loves to experiment with various ingrtedients.Another great passion of her is collecting recipes from friends and relatives.According to her own admission she has collected over 400 rare Indian, Mughlai, Marathi, and other recipes. She combined her interest in cooking and collecting recipes and forayed into the world of cuisine, selecting Dubai as the first venue for her restaurant chain aptly titled `Asha’s’.
The restaurant opened in 2002 at the Pyramids in Wafi City, one of Dubai’s premier shopping malls.
Interior design firm Graham Taylor has Designed the interiors of Asha’s based on the theme of fire and water. There are rich colors and mood lighting in addition to the ethnic Indian decorations….
According to Yvonne Taylor who works with Graham Taylor Designs.. ‘Everyone understands the power and importance of fire and water.’.. As we were led to the waiting area, which has a lovely seating arrangement with the walls covered with Asha’s pictures with her family and various film personalities.. there are water-filled bowls with fragrant blooms sharing space with a wall of candles.
The decor is very very pleasing without being overwhelming or gaudy. The walls and the whole interior has rich colors that exude warmth, and the whole effect is very classy.
I found the service very good.We had an individual waiter attending to our table only. The waiters are all very smart

The UAE’s per capita GDP is on par with those of leading West European nations. The government has increased spending on job creation and infrastructure expansion and is opening up utilities to greater private sector involvement. Dubai’s Free Trade Zones – offering 100% foreign ownership and zero taxes – are helping to attract foreign investors. Dubai Formation: Business Set Up In UAE
October 8, 2009 by admin

Dubai is the best Emirate for a business set up in UAE.
The East and West blend quite happily, side by side in Dubai’s social arena. Dubai has branded itself as the most happening place for tourists with its dozens of signature restaurants and trendy hotels. HH Sh. Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, The Ruler of Dubai stated recently that only 10% of his vision has been visible to us. So what a ride we are in for!
Dubai, one of the 7 emirates that form the United Arab Emirates, is a income, corporate and wealth tax free nation. For years it has been known as a shopper’s paradise.
It started as sea faring, pearl recovering, poor nation. But the visons of Sheikh Rashid and then his son, Sheikh Mohammed, have driven this small emirate, first to export gold and electronics to various high import tax countries, then to become a trading hub and banking center for South Asia, East Europe and most of Africa people.
Now it is poised to take its place as an international financial center, a health care hub for the Middle East, and a leisure destination for the world. This emirate will become the Switzerland of the Middle East for banking, and Monaco, for the rich and famous who want to live in a tax haven.
So you can ask yourself: Why am I not there?
But consider the business dynamics. Dubai is located in the Middle East exactly in the center time zone between Singapore and London, the only country with the vision to become the financial center between these 2 major financial centers.
It is surrounded by a target market cachement area of more than 1 billion Arab speakers and another billion South Asians. Which just happens to be one of the fastest growing markets in the world. A Dubai formation allows you to tap into this market from Dubai, a nation with a well developed communication and transport infrastructure apart from an internationally accepted banking system. All this right in the middle of various politically troubled countries.
This emirate is in the center of a prosperous market. Over the years, it has established good trading links with Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Iran and neighboring markets. A Dubai formation offers excellent port and airport facilities in terms of size, flexibility and efficiency and can be considered to be the best in the region.
The strength and dependability of its shipping and transportation sector has attracted leading freight forwarders, shipping companies and insurance companies. In fact a Dubai Logistics City on the border of the largest airport are currently under construction in Dubai!
A Dubai formation with its pro business government policies is ideal regarding establishing of regional headquarters of companies. It is one of the most liberal regulatory governments and it offers features that are very conductive to trade.
9/11 has been a key driver for the change in Dubai. After 9/11, as the West became more stringent in doing due diligence for Arab travelers and granting of visas became limited, the oil prices began to sky rocket. But the rulers of the Middle East no longer were enamored with investing in the US or Europe and started looking at creating investment opportunities in their own backyards.
Freehold real estate was born. Now sand could be rapidly converted to gold! The maximum number of licenses being issued for Dubai formations, which used to be for trading in the past are now for something to do with real estate.
Forming a corporation in the UAE is not only challenging but rewarding too. The challenges can be termed as
a) procedures related to business formation are not so clear,
b) establishment fees charged by the government are very high
c) the UAE bureaucracy is considered to be opaque.
However global entrepreneurs get incorporation help in terms of local corporation tax waiver on their profits thereby enabling them to earn tax free profits on their Dubai formation through the various double tax treaties.
As it is a highly competitive economy business setup in UAE requires high capital investments.
The International Institute For Management Development report 2005, Dubai ranked as the 17th most competitive economy of the world.
Investors should have a minimum budget of US $ 50,000 for forming a corporation in the UAE. Business setup in UAE takes between nine to 14 weeks of time and it largely depends on the type of company that is to be formed.
As it is considered as a developed country with its overall life expectancy, literacy, education and living standards (as per United Nations Human Development Index) and with the incorporation help that it provides in the form of free zones to foreign investors desirous of 100% ownership, UAE is the perfect destination for global entrepreneurs for Dubai formation of companies.
